Series: Jesus and Heaven

Passage: Revelation 22:1-9

Life in the city is sustained by the river of life. 1-2a

1Then he showed me a river of the water of life, clear as crystal, coming from the throne of God and of the Lamb, 2 in the middle of its street.

The river is clear as crystal.

The river comes from the throne of God and of the Lamb.

The river comes down the middle of the street.

Life in the City is secured by the tree of life. 2b

2. . . On either side of the river was the tree of life, bearing twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit every month; and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.

The tree of life is a fruitful tree.

The tree of life has leaves healing the nations.

Life in the city is free from the curse. 3

3 There will no longer be any curse;

Life in the city is marked by God’s presence. 4

3. . .and the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and His bond-servants will serve Him;

4 they will see His face, and His name will be on their foreheads.

We will serve Him.

3. . .and the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and His bond-servants will serve Him;

We will see Him.

4 they will see His face, and His name will be on their foreheads.

We will be secured by Him.

4 they will see His face, and His name will be on their foreheads.

Life in the city is illumined by God Himself.

5 And there will no longer be any night; and they will not have need of the light of a lamp nor the light of the sun, because the Lord God will illumine them;

Life in the city is reigning with Christ forever.

5. . . and they will reign forever and ever.

Life in the city is ruled by the Word of God. 6-7

6 And he said to me, “These words are faithful and true”; and the Lord, the God of the spirits of the prophets, sent His angel to show to His bond-servants the things which must soon take place. 7 “And behold, I am coming quickly. Blessed is he who heeds the words of the prophecy of this book.”

The Word of God is reliable.

“These words are faithful and true”;

The Word of God is understandable.

to show to His bond-servants the things which must soon take place. . 7 “And behold, I am coming quickly. . .

The Word of God is doable and profitable.

. . .Blessed is he who heeds the words of the prophecy of this book.”

Revelation 1:3

Life in the city is worship of God. 8-9

8 I, John, am the one who heard and saw these things. And when I heard and saw, I fell down to worship at the feet of the angel who showed me these things. 9 But he said to me, “Do not do that. I am a fellow servant of yours and of your brethren the prophets and of those who heed the words of this book. Worship God.”
