Series: God In Us

Passage: Acts 1:8-

The Holy Spirit endows power for the mission.  Endow means to give a large gift.

But you will receive power. . .

“power”  occurs over 250 times in the Scripture.  God operates in power.  The Holy Spirit in particular operates in power.

Luke 4:14 And Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and news about Him spread through all the surrounding district.

Acts 10:38  “You know of Jesus of Nazareth, how God anointed Him with the Holy Spirit and with power, cand how He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.

Romans 15:13 Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you will abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Romans 15:19 in the power of asigns and wonders, in the power of the Spirit; so that from Jerusalem and round about as far as Illyricum I have fully preached the gospel of Christ.

1 Corinthians 2:4 and my message and my preaching were not in persuasive words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power,

Ephesians 3:16 that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man,

1 Thessalonians 1:5 for our gospel did not come to you in word only, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and with full conviction; just as you know what kind of men we proved to be among you for your sake.

The Holy Spirit informs the process of the mission.

. . .when the Holy Spirit has come upon you

The process includes gathering.

Acts 1:4 Gathering them together. . .

The process includes praying.

Acts 1:14 These all with one mind were continually devoting themselves to prayer,

The process includes waiting.

Acts 1:4 . . .but to wait for bwhat the Father had promised,

The process includes preparing.

Acts 1:2-3 . . .after He had by the Holy Spirit given orders to the apostles whom He had chosen. 3 To these He also presented Himself alive after His suffering, by many convincing proofs, appearing to them over a period of forty days and speaking of the things concerning the kingdom of God.

The process includes anticipating.

Acts 1:5 . . . for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit bnot many days from now.”

The process includes receiving.

Acts 1:8 But you will receive power

The Holy Spirit enlightens the purpose of the mission.

Acts 1:8 . . .and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.”

The purpose involves you.  you”

The purpose includes God’s guarantee. “shall be

The purpose is all about God.  My

The purpose involves a witness.  witnesses
