Series: House of Prayer

Passage: Matthew 9:35-10:1

Jesus continues to carry out His ministry. 35

35 Jesus was going through all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every kind of disease and every kind of sickness.

35 Jesus was going through all the cities and villages

Teaching in their synagogues

Proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom

Healing every kind of disease and every kind of sickness

Jesus cares deeply for people. 36

36 Seeing the people, He felt compassion for them, because they were distressed and dispirited like sheep without a shepherd.

Seeing the people

He felt compassion for them

Because they were distressed and dispirited

Like sheep without a shepherd

Jesus calls on His people to pray. 37-38

37 Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. 38 “Therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest.”

37 Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.

38 Therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest

To send out workers into His harvest.

The verses following indicate that Jesus was going to send out His disciples into the harvest.

10:1 Jesus summoned His disciples and gave them authority. . .

10:5 These twelve Jesus sent out after instructing them. . .

10:16 Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves; so be shrewd as serpents and innocent as doves.

11:1 When Jesus had finished giving instructions to His twelve disciples, He departed from there to teach and in their cities

We must know God’s will to save the lost.

2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.

1 Timothy 2:3-4 This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

Prayer for the lost is spiritual warfare against Satan.

2 Corinthians 10:3-4 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh, 4 for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses.

We must pray for the lost to have repentance to escape the snare of the devil.

2 Timothy 2:25-26 with gentleness correcting those who are in opposition, if perhaps God may grant them repentance leading to the knowledge of the truth, 26 and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, having been held captive by him to do his will.

We must pray for their blind eyes to be opened.

2 Corinthians 4:3-4 And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, 4 in whose case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving so that they might not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.

2 Kings 6:17 Then Elisha prayed and said, “O Lord, I pray, open his eyes that he may see.” And the Lord opened the servant’s eyes and he saw;

We must pray for their deaf ears to ear the gospel.

Ephesians 1:13 In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation—having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise.
