Series: Lost and Found

Passage: Luke 15:12-16

The father experienced the pain of the rebellion and rejection of his children.

His younger son outwardly rebelled.

12 “The younger of them said to his father, ‘Father, give me the share of the estate that falls to me.’ So he divided his wealth between them.

13 “And not many days later, the younger son gathered everything together and went on a journey into a distant country, and there he squandered his estate with loose living.

His older son inwardly rebelled.

28 “But he became angry and was not willing to go in; and his father came out and began pleading with him.

His younger son rejected him.

His older son rejected him.

The father experienced the pain of releasing children.

The father experienced the pain of relating to his children’s calamity.

The father experienced the pain of waiting for the return.

The father experienced the pain of his children not loving each other.

First, we must understand that in this story, we are not the father.

Second, we must come to the Father’s house.

Third, we must cast our burdens upon the Father.

Matthew 11:28-30: 28 “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. 29 “Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 “For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

1 Peter 5:7: Casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.

Fourth, we must pray and fill our minds with God’s Word.

Philippians 4:6-7: Be careful for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God and the peace of God that passes all understanding shall keep your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

Isaiah 41:10: Do not fear, for I am with you. Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you surely I will help you. Surely I will uphold you with My righteous hand.

Fifth, we must keep going and growing spiritually.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18: 16 Rejoice always; 17 pray without ceasing; 18 in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
