Series: Greater Faithfulness

Passage: 1 Timothy 1:1-20

1 Timothy 3:14-15 (NASB) 14 I am writing these things to you, hoping to come to you before long; 15 but in case I am delayed, I write so that you will know how one ought to conduct himself in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and support of the truth.

The purpose of 1 Timothy is to instruct people how to conduct themselves in the church.

Be faithful to teach sound doctrine.

Understand the church remains for the purpose of instruction.

1 Timothy 1:3-5 (NASB) 3 As I urged you upon my departure for Macedonia, remain on at Ephesus so that you may instruct certain men not to teach strange doctrines,

Appreciate the goal of instruction is love from a pure heart, good conscience, and sincere faith.

1 Timothy 1:5 (NASB) 5 But the goal of our instruction is love from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith.

Beware that the enemies of instruction are fruitless discussions and ignorant assertions.

1 Timothy 1:6-7 (NASB) 6 For some men, straying from these things, have turned aside to fruitless discussion, 7 wanting to be teachers of the Law, even though they do not understand either what they are saying or the matters about which they make confident assertions.

Appreciate the relationship between the Law and grace.

1 Timothy 1:8-11 (NASB) 8 But we know that the Law is good, if one uses it lawfully. . .11 according to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, with which I have been entrusted.

Be faithful to share a clear testimony.

A personal testimony should project a proper attitude.

1 Timothy 1:12-13 (NASB) I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has strengthened me,

A personal testimony should provide the  path to gospel transformation.

1 Timothy 1:13-16 (NASB) 15 It is a trustworthy statement, deserving full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, among whom I am foremost of all.

A personal testimony should praise our Great God!

1 Timothy 1:17 (NASB) Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.

Be faithful to fight the good fight. 18-20

18 This command I entrust to you, . . .that by them you fight the good fight,
